Finding Time for Yourself

It seems like even having time for a shower can be difficult when you have a new baby. But you have to make time for yourself or you'll go crazy. Without neglecting your baby, here are some tips for making time for yourself. A well rested, happy mother is a better mother.

Put baby in the bathroom with you while you shower. Put baby in a bouncy seat or even a baby carrier and sit baby on the floor, while you shower. Cheeking every now and then to see if baby is alright.

You can also do this while taking a relaxing bath. It's okay to let baby fuss a little, when the baby doesn't need anything, such as a bottle or a diaper change. This will in time let baby know that other people besides baby have needs too.

It's okay to let baby fuss while your getting ready, you know drying your hair, brushing your teeth, putting on a little makeup. Putting baby safely in a playpen or crib and letting baby fuss a little bit is definitely okay.

Include your baby in your activities. If you work at home sit baby next to you and talk to her and look at her while doing your work. Eat your lunch with your baby, while you enjoy a good meal, play peek-a-boo with your baby.

Depend on dad. Take a shower in the morning while dad and baby are eating breakfast. Have dad watch baby while you take a nap. Go shopping or grocery shopping without baby. Do something by yourself that is relaxing and don't feel guilty on having dad pitch in and help. Your job being mom is just as hard as his paying job.

Hire some help. Ask a teenager or an Aunt or Uncle or Grandparent to watch baby at your house for a couple of hours while you do some chores or catch up on some bills, this will give you a break from baby, and a chance to catch up on much needed housekeeping.

While a 30 min break is no vacation you will find yourself refreshed and actually missing your baby, so go get some much needed ME time. Have a blast being a mom.
