Starting at around 6 months of age, you can start to communicate with your baby. You can teach baby sign language, this may take a couple months for baby to catch on but by around 8 or 9 months. Baby will be able to tell you all sorts of things.
Baby can tell you if he's hungry, sleepy, even if it's time for milk.
My son is almost 2 years now and while he can speak some words, I believe that sign language has helped him to communicate better then he could have if he didn't know sign language. My son can now tell me if he wants more of something, he says please and thank you, he says hello and sleepy and help and a lot of other words.
There has been some arguments that teaching baby sign language can delay talking, but I personally haven't experienced this to be true. In fact my son says the word as he is doing sign language.
Instead of wondering why your baby is crying why don't you teach baby to tell you. It doesn't take that much time and baby will be able to communicate much easier. In fact babies that learn sign language do less crying then baby's who don't know sign language. So teach your child sign language, it's worth it.
