So for nine months you had to watch what you ate and drank, and now you have to be careful while breastfeeding to. I know this might seem like a bummer to the occasional glass of wine you want to have with dinner, but just know that it's not forever.
Things you should avoid while breastfeeding are: Alcohol!!!! If you do decide to have a little wine with dinner, then you should pump and throw away your milk for 24 hrs. While supplementing baby with stored breast milk or formula. I know I know, your thinking a glass of wine? Yes even just a glass of wine can hurt your baby. Baby could get drunk and if your any parent at all you want your baby to wait till he/she is 21 yrs old before your baby experiences that. Everything you eat and drink goes through to your baby.
Other things you should avoid is really gassy foods, such as garlic onions, Green beans, and really spicy foods, anything that you may need an antacid for, can and most likely will upset baby's fragile tummy.
Another good tip is to always tell your doctor you are breastfeeding because there are certain medications that can hurt baby if taken.
So watch what you eat and before you know it, you can have that glass of wine with dinner.

Pump and dump for 24 hours for a glass of wine? You must be joking.
the rule is 3 hours... so just nurse before the drink then you may have to miss one feeding unless you have a good sleeper!
My lactation specialist and doctor both told me that the alcohol metabolizes after 2-3 hours, no need to waste any milk if you can wait that long to feed or pump. This is for one glass of wine, one mixed drink or 2 beers.
