In today's society breastfeeding is on the outs, becoming more unacceptable throughout the years. But why? With so much sex on television, it astounds me that our society as a whole can look down on a mother who is naturally feeding her baby in public. I admit that it is uncomfortable to be around, but as a mother who breastfed her child, i can get over it. So here are some myths about breastfeeding that might help you the mother determine if breastfeeding is right for you.
Myth #1- You have to go through a lot of trouble when breastfeeding.
The truth is never ever ever again will it be so easy to feed your child again. When your tired at 3 in the morning, you don't have to get up, your husband can go get the baby and bring baby to you and you can lay on your side and breastfeed. You don't have to get up and warm a bottle every 2 hours you can hold your baby, and bond with your baby. Also your breasts are ready when your baby is. It is actually easier to breastfeed once you get the hang of it.
Myth #2- You have to be around your baby all the time, breastfeeding ties the mother down.
The truth is yes breastfeeding can tie you down, but since the invention of breast pumps and 15 min of expressing milk, any one can feed baby when you have to be away for a couple of hours. When your on the go and baby is going with you, your breasts are attached so you can feed baby anywhere. I have known mothers who have a cute shawl on, and breastfeed baby while grocery shopping. Now that's easy.
Myth #3- Your breasts will be ruined because of breastfeeding.
Well the truth to this one I think depends on the person. Like any woman who has given birth to a few children, minus a few lucky genetically skinny women, know that a woman body is never the same after a baby is born. Those of us that didn't have hips before do now, and those of us that have breastfed know that although our breasts are not ruined per say, they may not be as perky or as full as they used to be. But this may not be due to breastfeeding. Like I said this all depends on the individual, say you gained a lot of weight when you were pregnant, this can cause your breasts to be different, also unsupported breasts can pose a problem after pregnancy. So the question is can you sacrifice your body to do whats best for baby. That's up to you.
Good Luck with breastfeeding if you decide to, it really is more healthy for your baby.
