Tips For Surviving a Colicky Baby

What is colic? It's when a baby cries for no reason once a day for hours on end. The cause no one really knows. Parents do know one thing though, having a colicky baby is not fun what so ever. Trying to get a colicky baby to calm down can often be frustrating and often tiring. You can be relieved to know that by the end of 3 or 4 months colic should disappear as fast as it came. Well here are some tips to help you and your family survive a colicky baby.

First of all, dealing with a screaming baby night after night can be exhausting and frustrating, everyone understands that. But if you feel like you are going to harm your baby, if you have violent feelings toward your baby, please get help. A good idea if your by yourself is go to your neighbor and hand the baby off to her, or just put the baby down in his crib while you go to a different room and cry it out and get your composure. Also to make sure that you don't harm your baby, since you are having these feelings, don't be by yourself. Have someone help you even if you have to hire someone.

It is important to give yourself a break. It won't hurt your baby to cry for a little while, without you trying to comfort her. So put baby down in a crib or bassinet with some soothing music and do something like enjoy a snack or catch up on a chore or two. You will be more refreshed and although your baby will be crying, she will get a break from you as well. A happy mom is a good mom. If the crying bothers you turn up your music or get some ear plugs. This sounds harsh but, it will help you cope with colic.

Remember it's okay to cry, can you imagine going through 3 months of your baby crying for hours on end. Nothing makes you feel worse then a baby you can't calm down, you feel like bad parent but remember it's not your fault and thousands of parents go through this every day. So let it out, cry on your husbands shoulder, a friends shoulder, anybody's shoulder. It's hard what your going through and talking about it can help.

Remember it's okay to ask for a little help. If you have a mom or a husband or a friend ask them to come take care of your screaming baby for about an hour while you get some chores done, or if your help is really great then go shopping, or get a coffee, or just get out of the house.
