Is your baby a fussy eater? Well this is more common then you may think. While some babies eat almost anything they can get there little hands on, other babies are a little more picky. I don't think my son would eat sometimes if I left it up to him to decide when its time to eat. So here are some tips to help your little fussy eater learn to eat better, while giving you the mom some piece of mind.
My doctor was kind enough to let me know that babies even toddlers know how much they need to eat to grow. If you are worried about nutrition you can give your baby a multi vitamin to ensure proper development and growth. Always ask your doctor before supplementing your baby with vitamins, your baby may not need vitamins, and to many vitamins can harm your little one. So be sure to talk to your doctor before giving baby vitamins.
Give your baby the food he/she wants. Some babies will only eat one food and refuse all other foods. If this is the case give baby bread or bananas or whatever the food of the week is. For example, my son loved a ham sandwich one week and the next week he wouldn't touch it. But make sure if baby is only eating one thing to make it as nutritious as possible. For example, if all baby is eating is bread make it whole wheat bread. If baby loves oranges try to sneak in some peaches, or apricots.
While forcing food on your baby is not good, sneaking food is. There is nothing wrong with helping your baby try new foods, add on when you can. This not only will help baby like a more variety of food, it will be more nutritious for your baby. For example, if baby will only eat bread try putting butter or jelly, or cinnamon and sugar on it. Then add in some mashed banana, or try some apple sauce. If baby loves cereal put the cereal in milk and add bananas or raisins. Try to get baby to eat more than just one thing at meal times.
Although snacks are important, don't ruin babies appetite with juices filled with sugar or junk food. Give baby a glass of watered down juice instead and a healthy snack like oranges instead of fruit snacks or crackers which have very little nutritional value. If you feed your baby snacks in between breakfast lunch and dinner baby will not be hungry to enjoy breakfast lunch and dinner.
Change babies menu, maybe the reason your baby isn't eating is because baby is sick and tired of the same food each and every day, so switch it up a little and baby will eat more
Let baby feed him/herself, When baby has the responsibility of feeding himself then chances are you will have a better chance of baby eating then if you are feeding him. If you help feed him hold on to the spoon and encourage good eating. If you don't like something then your baby won't either. Baby watches your face so keep a smile, and don't get discouraged if baby isn't eating.
